Seventh place at the flag went to Andrea Dovizioso, who started from the third row. The Italian fought with the leading group for half the race, holding on to fourth until lap 14, and he then found himself in a great battle with Rossi and Viñales but he wasn’t able to defend his position in the final stages and finished his race in seventh place.
Dovizioso now lies second in the overall standings with a 16-point gap from leader Marquez.
The MotoGP world championship will be back on track for the next round at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan from 13-15 October.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04) – 7th
“It was a complicated weekend and my race was a tough one. At the start I tried to stay with the leading group, but unfortunately I didn’t have many cards to play: for sure not being able to do many laps on Friday complicated the situation because we knew this wasn’t an easy track for us and that we needed more time to work. I don’t think that opting for the soft rear tyre was a mistake, and the drop in performance towards the end of the race in my opinion is due to other factors, seeing as I was losing a lot in some parts of the track. Pity about my seventh place but, given the conditions, it was the best I could do today. There are still a lot of points at stake in the next four races and so we’ll try and make the best of the next opportunities.”

It will be a row 3 start for Andrea Dovizioso, who this morning gained direct access into Q2 with sixth-quickest time in FP3. In qualifying the Italian rider finished seventh with a time of 1’48.137, and he will start tomorrow’s 23-lap Aragón GP from row 3.

“Unfortunately, because of the conditions we found yesterday, today we didn’t have much time to work on the bike and try the various types of tyres available. Before qualifying I didn’t have a great feeling, but I managed anyway to set a good time and we are all pretty close together. Even though I’m starting a bit behind in seventh place, I think I have a good chance for the race and tomorrow it will be the choice of rear tyre that will make all the difference. For us all three options are interesting and we haven’t decided which one to choose yet so this evening me and my team will have to study the data well.”

The MotoGP World Championship is about to enter its decisive phase, with a five-race sprint to the finish in less than two months. Two rounds in Spain – the Aragón GP and the Valencia GP on November 12th – bookend the three overseas races (Japan, Australia and Malaysia) in the month of October. This weekend the Spanish track will be the venue for the fourteenth round of the season.
Andrea Dovizioso arrives in Spain second in the standings after the last round at Misano, on equal points with the leader, Marc Marquez from Spain. Dovizioso has taken part in all seven editions of the Aragón GP, and his best result was a third place in 2012. In last year’s race Andrea fought with the leading group in the early stages, but then had to slow his pace and he finished the GP in eleventh place.
The Aragón weekend schedule gets underway on Friday morning with the first free practice session at 9.55 am, while the 23-lap race is scheduled for Sunday at 2 pm local time.

“MotorLand Aragón is a really nice but rather unusual track, completely different from Misano where I stepped onto the podium for the first time in my GP career two weeks ago. Now we know we are competitive on all tracks, and both me and my team are really excited about the last five races, so I’ll be aiming for a podium again this weekend.”

Andrea Dovizioso put in a great qualifying run today at Misano to post the second-quickest time of 1’32.601 in Q2, and will line up on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s San Marino Grand Prix.
The San Marino Grand Prix, to be held over a distance of 28 laps, will get underway at the Misano World Circuit tomorrow at 14.00 CET.

“I’m really happy with this front row start! To be honest, second place was a bit unexpected because we worked a lot in FP4 with used tyres and I didn’t have a great feeling with the bike, but when we started the qualifying session I realized that we could be very fast. So I concentrated on getting the best out of the second tyre. In the end I set a really good time and this confirms that we are also quick here at Misano.”

Following on from the British GP at Silverstone, which propelled Andrea Dovizioso to the top of the points table for the second time this season, the Italian rider is now back home in Italy for the thirteenth round of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship. The Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini takes place this weekend at the Misano World Circuit, the Adriatic Riviera track located just down the motorway from Ducati headquarters at Borgo Panigale.
Andrea Dovizioso, fresh off the back of a splendid race in the UK where he scored his fourth win of the season, is currently the most successful rider in this hard-fought edition of the MotoGP championship. In front of the support of his home crowd and the numerous fans in the Ducati Grandstand, the Italian appears more determined than ever to continue his winning streak.
Despite it being his home race, Dovizioso has never been able to step onto the Misano podium in his nine MotoGP races here. Since 2008 his best result was a fourth place, which he obtained four times, in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014.
