Andrea Dovizioso seized 4th place in the GP of the Americas at Austin (U.S.A.), reclaiming the championship lead after three rounds with 54 points in the standings. After qualifying in fifth row in 13th position, the Mission Winnow Ducati rider got off to a strong start and immediately recovered several positions. With a strong and consistent pace, the Italian rider then progressively cut the gap from Jack Miller, finishing the race just nine tenths of a second behind the Australian, third on the finish line with the Desmosedici GP 19 of the Pramac Racing Team. 
After three rounds, Dovi leads the general standings with 54 points

“I’m happy with this result, especially considering that I was 13th on the grid, even though if I had one half lap more to ride I would have probably finished on the podium. It’s been a very tough race. Early on, I was struggling with the front and I didn’t have the pace to stay with the leading group, but I managed to stay calm and collected. Lap after lap, I regained confidence and my rhythm in the final stages was very competitive, so much that I almost managed to catch Miller. We’ve also been lucky because there were some crashes, but those things happen when you ride on the limit. We’re back on top of the Riders and Constructors standings, and my feeling with the bike has improved compared with last year, but it’s not enough because there are many competitive rivals so we need to keep improving.”

Andrea Dovizioso seized 13th position in qualifying ahead of tomorrow’s race at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin (U.S.A.), home of the third round of the MotoGP World Championship. 
In a day characterized by erratic weather conditions – with heavy rains in the morning and strong wind gusts in the afternoon – the Mission Winnow Ducati rider had less track time than usual to continue the work on the setup of his Desmosedici GP 19, as FP3 was canceled due to lightning alerts and FP4 took place in particularly tricky conditions, with a partly wet and partly dry tarmac. 
In Q1, Dovizioso was then able to immediately push hard on slick tyres. With the second-best time,  Dovizioso missed Q2 by only 0.016 seconds after posting a lap time almost identical to his teammate’s, and will start the race from fifth row in 13th position.

“Today’s qualifying was quite tricky. Track conditions were very precarious, and we also struggled more than we expected in the faster corners due to the strong winds. It’s a shame we couldn’t get into Q2, because I’m sure we could have recovered some more positions on the grid, but we need to look forward anyway. Unfortunately, the weather hasn’t allowed us to work on our race setup today, but we know our potential. We want, and we can, bounce back. It’ll be essential to get a good start, then we’ll try, as usual, to bring home the best possible result.”

The Mission Winnow Ducati rider resumed action today at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin (U.S.A.) for the third round of the 2019 MotoGP World Championship. In Friday’s free-practice sessions, the factory rider worked on the setup of his Desmosedici GP 19, showing good progress throughout the day despite facing some issues in his quest for a flying lap with soft tyres at the end of FP2. 

Andrea Dovizioso, who improved his lap times by 1.2 seconds in FP2, finished the day in 11th position on the time sheets with a personal best of 2:04.714, about eight tenths of a second from the provisional lead.

“We knew we would have struggled a bit more than usual on this track but, all in all, we’ve been competitive enough with a race setup. This afternoon, in particular, our pace was decent. In retrospect, I think we didn’t choose the best front tyre for the final time attack in FP2. I couldn’t put together the lap that I wanted, and it’s a shame because tomorrow it’ll probably rain. Looking at the positives, going through Q1 could represent an advantage to have more feeling on the wet in Q2. We’ll have to see what the weather is like tomorrow. Conditions may make a big difference in terms of grid positions and, consequently, the race itself: we’ll have to be ready for all scenarios.”

After seizing a podium at Termas de Río Hondo (Argentina) (3rd), Andrea Dovizioso is ready to resume action at Austin (United States) for the third round of the 2019 MotoGP World Championship, scheduled for April 12-14 at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA).

The Mission Winnow Ducati rider, who took a win and a third place this season so far, is currently second in the championship with 41 points to his tally and is keen to extend the podium streak to cut the gap from the lead, which is currently only four points. Dovizioso scored his personal best result at COTA in 2015, when he finished second.

“The way in which we worked in Argentina will be a good starting point for our next race at Austin. Even though the track is not the most suitable for us, I’m confident that, if we manage to improve in each session as we did at Termas de Río Hondo, we’ll be competitive come race time, which is the most important thing. Our goal at Austin is to step once again on the podium, which in some ways would count as much as a win, but we’ll need to assess the state of the track before we make any predictions. Last year the tarmac was really bumpy, and I hope the situation has improved since then. We know each race is a different story, so we just need to stay positive and focused, continuing to work as we did so far.”
