Andrea Dovizioso finishes fifth at the Grand Prix of Styria.

As he got off the line from the eighth spot of the grid, Andrea managed to recover some position in the first laps, but, he eventually dropped back again to the eighth position just before the competition got suspended due to an accident. Starting from the same place he was occupying at the time of the red flag, Dovizioso managed to get off the line well again at the restart, immediately putting himself behind the group fighting for the podium. But, on the final lap, in an attempt to recover on the riders in front him, the rider from Forlì went wide at Turn 3, leaving a space open for Mir, losing one position and closing the race in the fifth position. With today’s result, however, Dovizioso gains essential points for the championship standings, which now sees him split by only three points from current championship leader Quartararo.

“Unfortunately today didn’t go as I had hoped. In the first race, I had problems with the tyres, and I didn’t have the right feeling to ride well. Fortunately, with the restart, we were able to make a different tyre choice, and this allowed me to find back the sensations to which I was used to. Despite this, in the second race, I was not fast enough on the corner exit, and this prevented me from recovering. We will have to work well to improve this aspect to be more competitive on the other race tracks as well. With today’s fifth place, we are now very close to the top of the standings, and now we have to continue to be constant and take other steps forward in the next GPs”.

Third row start for Dovizioso in qualifying at the Red Bull Ring for the Grand Prix of Styria

After finishing FP3 with the fourth overall time, gaining to access directly into Q2, Dovizioso couldn’t find the right conditions to complete a good fastest lap in qualifying, finishing with the ninth time in 1:23.849, just 269 thousandths of a second from poleman Pol Espargaro.
Dovizioso, however, will start from the eighth spot of the grid as Johann Zarco will be forced to serve a penalty by starting the race from the pit lane tomorrow.

“Today our goal was to get on the front row, but unfortunately I couldn’t get a good lap in qualifying. It had never happened to me, but after working so much with the used tyres these days, I struggled to find the feeling needed to push with the new tyres. We’ve been working hard these days, and we’re ready for tomorrow. We hope to be able to recover positions immediately from the early stages of the race.”

Fast already during the early stages of the day, Andrea Dovizioso closed with the third time overall on Friday, after setting his best lap in 1:23.863 in FP1. Thanks to the good lap time that he put in this morning, the rider from Forlì could fully commit the rest of the time available in FP2 to fine-tune his Desmosedici GP bike, as he didn’t have to worry about trying another “time attack”.

“It has been a very positive day, and I am pleased with the work we’ve completed today. This morning we did a very quick lap time, and this allowed us to dedicate the afternoon session to try to understand how to manage the tyres better in the race. Since we had been racing here last week, we know where do we need to focus our work on. The feeling with the bike is good, and we are among the fastest riders. We hope that the weather will hold up, allowing us to continue our programme tomorrow.”

After the victory at the Austrian GP Dovizioso is ready to face another challenge at the Red Bull Ring for the Styria Grand Prix

After having triumphed at the Austrian Grand Prix, Andrea Dovizioso and the Ducati Team are ready to return at the Red Bull Ring this weekend, for the fifth round of the 2020 MotoGP World Championship, named Styria Grand Prix.
Present on the calendar since 2016 the Austrian race track continues to be favourable not only to the characteristics of the Desmosedici GP bike but also to Andrea Dovizioso’s riding style, who in the past five editions of the Grand Prix has always managed to get on the podium. With his recent success last Sunday, his victories in Austria rose to 3, along with a second and third place taken in 2016 and 2018 respectively. At the Styria Grand Prix, Andrea will aim to continue this extraordinary sequence of successes on the Spielberg race track and to get closer to the top of the general standings, which currently see him in the second position, 11 points behind Quartararo.

“After last Sunday’s victory, I was able to disconnect a little bit during these three days, and now I’m preparing again for the second GP at the Red Bull Ring. Last Sunday’s race will be a good reference to try to fight again for the victory, and now we have also understood that many of our rivals are strong and that they also have the potential to win. We’ve improved a lot in braking, but we can take another step forward by working on other aspects. The weather conditions will be decisive, and as we have already seen, they can change a lot of times during the weekend.”

Andrea Dovizioso signs a spectacular victory at the Austrian GP

Andrea Dovizioso took an extraordinary victory today at the Austrian GP, signing Ducati’s 50th MotoGP success. As he started with the fourth time on the grid, the Ducati Team rider was in second place when, after only a few laps, the race was suspended due to an accident. Starting again, this time from the front row thanks to the position he occupied at the time of the red flag, Andrea managed to hook with the riders at the front, putting himself behind Jack Miller, after only a few laps. On lap 11, the rider from Forlì made his decisive attack, earning the first position that he kept up to the chequered flag.
For Dovizioso this is his third success at the Red Bull Ring: thanks to this victory the rider from Romagna climbs back into second place in the overall standings, only 11 points behind Quartararo.

“It was a very peculiar race given the interruption due to the bad crash of Zarco and Morbidelli. Today my feeling with the bike was not particularly good, but in some areas, I felt strong, and I could make a difference. The weekend started well, but I was not sure if we could win the race: we managed to be immediately competitive, and I found good sensations, but we still lack something compared to the previous years. This track suits the characteristics of our Desmosedici GP bike, but we will still have to work to take another step forward and put ourselves in a position to fight for the victory in all the upcoming races.”

Second-row start for Andrea Dovizioso, fourth in qualifying at the Red Bull Ring

Andrea Dovizioso will start from the fourth spots of the grid at the Austrian GP scheduled for tomorrow at the Red Bull Ring.
Second at the end of FP3 this morning, the rider from Forlì took part directly into Q2 this afternoon. Third in 1:23.606 just a few instants before the time ran out, Dovizioso missed the front row by only 69 thousand of a second.

“I am pleased with today’s result. We managed to set some good lap times and find a good feeling with the bike, especially in braking. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be fast in all sectors in one lap. Otherwise, I would have got on the front row. Tomorrow there will be many riders fighting for the victory, but we also have a good pace for the race. We still have some aspects that need to be improved, but, in general, I am satisfied with our work.”

Positive first day for Andrea Dovizioso, second at the end of Friday’s free practices at the Austrian GP

The first day of action at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian GP ended early this afternoon for Andrea Dovizioso, second overall after the first two free practice sessions.
After FP1 held in dry conditions, the rain fell during the morning at the Austrian race venue, stopping only shortly before the start of FP2 in the afternoon. With the mixed conditions of the asphalt and some sectors completely dry and others still wet, the Ducati Team rider preferred to take to the track in the final minutes of the afternoon session, completing only a couple of laps before the time ran out.
As the combined classification remained unchanged, the rider from Forlì closed with the second-best time of the day, just 0.044 seconds behind Pol Espargaro in first position, thanks to the fastest lap in 1:24.237 that he put in this morning in FP1.

“I’m happy with this first day because we were able to be fast right away. Today I felt much more comfortable riding the bike, and I was able to improve especially in braking and in exiting the corners. Of course, there is still work to be done and, unlike the other years, many riders will be competitive on this track. We only finished one session today, but we are also among the first riders, so we are confident for tomorrow. We hope that the weather will hold up and allow us to do tomorrow’s sessions in the dry.”

The Ducati Team rider returns to action this weekend for the first of the two events scheduled at the Red Bull Ring in Austria

Just a few days after the Czech GP in Brno, the Ducati Team rider is ready to return to action this weekend for the Austrian GP, which will be held on the spectacular race track of the Red Bull Ring.
After a challenging weekend in the Czech Republic, the rider from Forlì arrives at the Red Bull Ring this year intending to regain is usual competitiveness on a track that has always seen him climbing on the podium for the last four years. After the first three races of the season, Dovizioso is currently fourth in the championship standings tied with Franco Morbidelli in third place.

“The Czech GP has shown everyone how difficult it is to make predictions this year. Every race has a different story and so, although Ducati has achieved four successes at the Red Bull Ring in the last four years, now we have to think that our priority is to regain the feeling with the Desmosedici GP bike. It is in difficult times like this that we have to stick together, and I see the next race in Austria as a good opportunity. We have to keep calm and work as we’ve always done.”

Dovizioso finished eleventh in the Czech GP held today at Brno Circuit.

The rider from Forlì, who started from the sixth row of the grid after qualifying in eighteenth place yesterday, managed to recover some positions immediately after the start, placing himself in the group fighting for the top ten with his teammate Petrucci and Jack Miller (Pramac Racing Team). As the tyres started to drop their performance in the second part of the race, Andrea couldn’t push further and stayed in the eleventh position until the finish line. After today’s race, Dovizioso sits in the fourth position of the championship standings, tied with Franco Morbidelli in third place.

“It was a pretty weird weekend. Unfortunately, we have not yet identified the reason for our problems. Today the tyres have been affected a lot by the wear, and they didn’t allow us to express ourselves to our best, but still, we don’t know if were the tyres that made the big difference today in the race. On the other hand, Zarco has been the protagonist of a great weekend, and this allows us to have some data to analyze to understand the situation better.”

Dovizioso ended eighteenth quickest in the Czech GP qualifying in Brno

It was a challenging day for Andrea Dovizioso, who will depart from the 18th spot of the grid in the Czech GP. The rider from Forlì was thirteenth at the end of this morning FP3. Forced to take part in Q1, Dovizioso finished in the eighth position, and he will, therefore, start from the sixth row of the grid in the race tomorrow.

“It was a strange day. Honestly, I don’t know what happened this afternoon in qualifying, so we will have to study well the data to figure out what the problem was. Of course, it would have been important to be able to start from the front positions: our pace is similar to that of the best riders, but in the race, the consumption of the rear tyre will put everyone to the test. Now we will do our best to be ready for tomorrow.”
