Seventh place went to Andrea Dovizioso, who started from the seond row. The Italian rider managed to make his way up to fifth place by the half-way point but was then passed by Bautista and Viñales and he took the chequered flag in seventh place.
Thanks to today’s results, Andrea Dovizioso moves up to fourth place in the championship standings, with 88 points.
The MotoGP World Championship will be back on track again from 3rd to 5th August at the Brno circuit for the Czech Grand Prix, while all the Ducati riders will meet their fans next week at the WDW (World Ducati Week), which will be held at the Misano Adriatico circuit from 20th to 22nd July.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04) – 7th
“It was a difficult race, but at least this time we were amongst the leading group at a circuit where, in the past, we had never obtained any good results. We had a good pace at the start of the race, but I wasn’t able to ride smoothly and so I couldn’t keep up the same pace until the end. Until half-way through the race I was lapping with the same times as the leaders, but then the rear tyre dropped off and I was no longer able to ride in a smooth way and make the bike flow through the middle of the corners. Pity, but we’ll also take stock of this experience to get a better idea of which direction to follow.”

Andrea Dovizioso set the fifth quickest time in 1’20.444, which puts him on the second row of the grid for the 30-lap race. This morning the Italian missed out on a top 10 place by a whisker and he had to work his way through Q1 in the early afternoon, which he did brilliantly with the quickest time.
The German Grand Prix gets underway tomorrow at 14.00 CET and will be held over a distance of 30 laps.

“All in all today went well, even though this morning we just missed out on getting into the top 10 by a few thousandths of a second. We tried various set-ups but the grip drops off so much that it’s difficult to have precise feedback. In any case in the FP4 session we lapped in line with the other riders who used new tyres, demonstrating that we had a good pace. Then we stayed calm during Q1, where we ended up with the quickest time, and we went through Q2 without any problems in fifth, which earned us an important row 2 start. For the race we are fast for sure but the unknown factor for everyone will be tyre management and it’ll be the wear and the drop in the rear tyre that will make the real difference.”

The German Grand Prix weekend got off to a positive start for the Ducati Team rider at the Sachsenring. After two free practice sessions at the German circuit, Andrea Dovizioso was classified fourth with a time of 1’21.309.

“It has been a positive first day: we were quick both in the morning and this afternoon, and this is vital to be able to focus on the details during the weekend. I’m still not entirely satisfied with a few little things, but I think that we can improve them tomorrow. At the moment Marquez is the quickest man out there for pace, but there are a few Ducati riders who have good speed and so our base is a good one. Even though we are quick, we’ll continue to work on our pace because on Sunday the race will be held over 30 laps. At any rate, we went very well today for the first day.”
