PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team’s Andrea Dovizioso ended his home GP in the points in 13th.

Dovi, who lined up 21st on the grid, lost places at the start of the 27-lap MotoGP and was 23rd on the opening lap. He enjoyed a brief battle with team-mate Rossi early on, but was unable to stay with him as the race unfolded.
Despite being handed a long lap penalty late on for exceeding track limits, Dovi was still able to finish his home GP inside the points in 13th.

There will now be a one-week break for Andrea before the final two Grands Prix of the season, which will be run back-to-back, get underway with the Grande Prémio do Algarve first up (5-7 November).

“It has been a very difficult weekend because we struggled a lot in the wet and I was not that fast yesterday. I expected a bit more today, not with our position but with our pace, however it didn’t feel good from the start of the race. I didn’t really improve this weekend, however we tackled some bad conditions and this can help us make changes to the bike. Overall though, I’m not too happy with the weekend, but I expect to improve the feeling in Portimao. Fabio [Quartararo] has done something crazy this year and is riding in a special way, so big congratulations to him because he has been so consistent this year and I’m really happy for him”.

PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team’s MotoGP riders experienced tricky and mixed conditions during Qualifying for the Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna, where Andrea Dovizioso was 21st.

Dovi was quick to improve upon his best lap from Friday in FP3, despite the tricky conditions. Continuing to find time around the Misano circuit, the Italian’s best lap – 1’42.251 – placed him 22nd at the end of FP3.
Dovi was quick to continue improving his lap time, but struggled to find his true pace in the mixed conditions.

Setting a time of 1’36.639 on his final flying lap, he ended Q1 11th and will start tomorrow’s home race from 21st.

Dovi will be back out on track at 10am tomorrow for Warm Up, before the EmiliaRomagnaGP concludes with the 27-lap MotoGP race at 2pm.

“It has been a very difficult weekend for us so far, especially with the weather, and I don’t feel good on the bike. I wasn’t as fast as I wanted to be in Qualifying, where the conditions were half dry and half wet. This isn’t the best for the bike and I didn’t have the feeling that allows me to push hard, so the position on the grid isn’t good. It will be hard in the race, but we will try to learn what we can, try to stay with the group and see what we can achieve. It will be hard to overtake the other riders tomorrow, but we will try our best”.

The second GP of the year at Misano got underway for PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team today with mixed conditions for Andrea Dovizioso, who ended the Gran Premio Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna opening day 24th.

Enjoying a home GP, Dovi had a steady start to FP1 and took his time in acclimatising to the wet conditions. After sitting out of the worst of the rain, the Italian set a 1min 45.881secs time on his final lap and ended FP1 21st.

Andrea was quick to improve upon his morning time and at the halfway point of FP2 his fastest lap was 1min 44.643secs. Dovi was unable to better this time in the second half of the session and ended FP2, and the day, 24th.

Tomorrow’s track action will begin with FP3 at 9.55am local time and end with the two MotoGP Qualifying sessions at 2.10pm local time.

“I didn’t feel too good in the wet conditions and we are struggling a lot with grip, so that’s why I’m not as fast as I’d like. Today we faced two different conditions in the two sessions and I didn’t make a good lap time in either of them. We have some work to do tonight to be better tomorrow. My target is to work towards the top-ten by the end of the season, but I don’t think this will be possible here at Misano. I’m still not completely used to the bike, so it will be difficult to make a perfect lap tomorrow to be in that top-ten. We’ve done one race here already and the test after that, so what we learned then should help me tomorrow and Sunday”.

PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team will be back in action this weekend at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the Gran Premio Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna, which will be the second for Andrea Dovizioso – since he made his MotoGP return.

Dovi, who is also enjoying his second home race this weekend, will be returning to the scene of his PETRONAS Yamaha SRT debut and hoping to continue his points scoring ways, after ending the race at COTA 13th.

Although conditions might be different to what the Italian faced at the SanMarinoGP and two-day Misano test a month ago, ‘Dovi’ is looking forward to getting back on his bike and seeing what improvements he has made since then.

Free Practice 1 will get underway at 9.55am local time on Friday, with Sunday’s 27-lap MotoGP race bringing the EmiliaRomagnaGP to a close at 2pm local time

“I think it will be very hard to be competitive enough to make it into the top-ten, but the improvements we have made since the first Misano race are huge. I’m really happy about that. After a good experience at that race and also in America, I’m looking forward to going back to Misano. This weekend will be a good opportunity to compare the bike and where we are now to where we were one month ago at the same circuit, although the conditions might be different. I think this will help me to be faster and I’m aiming to stay within the group. I’m really looking forward to being more competitive and fighting with the other riders”.

Andrea Dovizioso claimed his first 2021 World Championship points in only his second race with PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team at the Circuit of The Americas.

After an opening lap on which Andrea Dovizioso slipped backward to 17th, the Italian mounted something of a comeback around the demanding COTA track. By lap nine he had fought his way back up to 12th position before being passed for the place, and he then delivered a consistent ride to hold 13th until the finish. Today he started his 329th Grand Prix across all classes, which moves him into the second highest number of starts, behind only his team-mate.

There will now be a two-week gap before PETRONAS Yamaha SRT make their second visit of the season to Misano, this time for the Gran Premio dell’Emilia Romagna (22-24 October).

“I’m very disappointed with the start because I almost switched off the engine – I don’t know if I made a mistake but I lost a lot of positions, so we’re looking into that. This made it not very easy, especially as it’s very difficult for us to overtake, but in the end my pace was quite good and quite consistent. I’m disappointed because I didn’t achieve the maximum – with a good start I believe I could have been in the top ten, but the improvement since Misano is huge and we’re continuing to work hard and to adapt to the bike. We are in a strange situation that I can be happy even when we don’t get a good result because I’m learning, so it’s ok and we will continue to work in this way”.

After an impressive performance in only his second GP with PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team, Andrea Dovizioso will start the Grand Prix of the Americas from 14th on the grid.

It proved to be a tough FP3 for Dovizioso, who was able to consistently improve his time in today’s session – setting a 2mins 5.310secs lap – but was unable to better his time from yesterday. He ended FP3 17th and was 18th overall.

The Italian started Q1 by putting in a solid banker lap, before pushing hard in the final moments of the session. Dovi looked set to challenge for a Q2 place, but ended Q1 fourth with a 2mins 4.044secs lap – securing a place on the fifth row of the grid in 14th.

Warm up will get underway for Dovi at 9.40am local time tomorrow, while the AmericasGP coming to a conclusion at 2pm local time with the 20-lap MotoGP race.

“It has been a bit better today, but I’m still not riding in the way that I need to. However, step-by-step I’m able to understand the bike a bit more. I am happy with today because I am getting closer to some of the other riders, but I think it will be hard to battle with them in the race tomorrow because I’m not as strong in that situation. It will be important to adapt to the bike because I want to battle with other riders. It’s not the strongest on the back straight, but it is what it is and at this moment I just have to use the bike to its best potential. I’m not completely doing that yet, so I need to focus on that tomorrow and see what happens in the race”.

The opening day of the Grand Prix of the Americas got underway today with mixed conditions for PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team’s MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso, who ended the day 14th.

Dovi set a strong lap in the early part of FP1, when the track was still damp from earlier rainfall, going 12th with a 2mins 20.556secs lap. However, he was unable to improve in the drier conditions and ended FP1 21st. The Italian had a steadier start to FP2, but towards the end of the session set a time that placed him sixth momentarily. Setting a 2mins 5.137secs lap in the final moments, Andrea ended the day inside the top-15 – in 14th.

Track action for Dovi will resume with FP3 tomorrow at 9.55am local time, followed by the two MotoGP Qualifying sessions at 2.10pm local time .

“This morning was a crazy session for many reasons, and we had to fix a lot of things, but it was okay. I’m happy about the afternoon though, because my speed wasn’t too bad and I was able to improve. The feeling was a lot better, I was able to brake quite hard and corner entry was good. We are still working on some other things and of course you want everything to be perfect, but everything isn’t like that at the moment. I like this track, the layout is good and there are a lot of places where you can be fast by using the momentum – it isn’t about pure speed. I think this is one of the reasons that I have been able to be more competitive today”.
